SciTech Hands On Museum is a dynamic environment, part children’s museum and part science museum. Our team works together to create a unique experience full of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics). Our mission is to inspire learning through creative, interactive educational programs and activities. Through Hands On exhibits, workshops, lab classes, demonstrations, and interacting with guests, we help people discover science in the world around them.

Job Openings

Lead Teacher

Lead Teachers at SciTech facilitate educational experiences and foster literacy in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and related areas. Education Faculty support museum activities on site and at service sites. Lead Teachers report to the Director of Education.

Educational Responsibilities:

  • Lead the facilitation of educational programming including demos, labs, classes, and exhibit interpretation.
  • Guide Associate Teachers, volunteers, and other faculty participating in the learning environment.
  • Co-teach activities as needed.
  • Represent SciTech at events and discuss the opportunities that SciTech has to offer with the public.
  • Engage the public in educational activities during outreach, promotional, and other special events.
  • Organize and support volunteers who represent the SciTech Education Department at events.
  • Deliver Floor Show demonstrations and activities to the general public and scheduled groups.
  • Engage the public in scientific literacy, questioning, and conversation while exploring the exhibits at SciTech.
  • Guide visitors through the operation and interpretation of exhibits as needed.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Prepare materials and assist with supply management.
  • Report schedule availability regularly to Director of Education.
  • Track hours independently and report hours in the SciTech time clock.
  • Represent SciTech at events and discuss the opportunities that SciTech has to offer with the public.
  • Participate in training as it relates to SciTech programming, teaching methods, and more as appropriate.
  • Complete expense reports for travel and other reimbursements as necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High level of interest in STEAM education (science, technology, education, art, and math)
  • Teaching certification (STEAM or other content areas, comparable experience may be considered)
  • Experience facilitating lesson plan activities, programming, or curriculum
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills and flexibility
  • Bilingual is a PLUS!
  • Ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team
  • Access to reliable transportation to SciTech and sites that SciTech services

Salary and Benefits: Hourly, part time. Training will be provided.

Museum Geek

 Exhibit Geeks assist with daily museum guests, field trips, birthday parties, occasional off site events, and all group bookings. They must be friendly and courteous to every guest while maintaining the safety of the guests and exhibits. Exhibit Geeks are supervised by the Discovery Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a high quality experience for the museum visitor
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative
  • Engage children during field trips and ensure their safety
  • Provide security for buildings and collections
  • Learn emergency procedures and take responsibility for visitor safety
  • Arrive as scheduled for work and record hours promptly and accurately
  • Behave in a professional manner at all times
  • Dress appropriately and modestly following dress code provided
  • Assist with program set-up and clean-up
  • Work courteously and cooperatively with fellow employees and volunteers
  • Promptly report any issues to the Discovery Manager
  • Assist with opening and closing the museum floor
  • Monitor the exhibits and report any malfunctions to the Discovery Manager

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High level of interest in STEAM education (science, technology, education, art, and math)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Experience in customer service a plus
  • Experience educating and supervising children
  • Comfortable working outdoors in warm weather conditions (seasonally)
  • Ability to lead groups up and down multiple sets of stairs
  • Bilingual is a PLUS!
  • High level of organization required
  • Excellent communication skills a must
